Meet your tour guide Ray
Hi, I’m Ray. This is my attempt to find meaning, my attempt to communicate to my daughter what I really wish I had know at her age, and my attempt to share with the world the valuable lessons that I have learned walking my path. On the path I’ve successfully learned to manage my depression, anxiety, and a dozen other challenges. I say “manage” and not “solve” or “cure” because it really is about managing. We are all managing. We all have challenges. We all have insight. We can all learn from each other. We can all learn to live happyish.
This isn’t rocket science, this is about mindfully choosing to live happyish. This isn’t about depression or anxiety disorders, this is about all the pitfalls and hidden treasures that lie all around us, some of which I’ve found and want to make others aware of. This is work. This is practice. This is walking together.
Why Cheap Zen?
The name Cheap Zen is an attempt to convey both that simple little changes can bring peace as well as to cautiously remind that only we can walk our own path. A famous Zen koan is “If you meet the Buddha on the path kill him.” To me that means that we should always be wary of advice and must always realize that we need to discover and walk our own path, suggestions from others, even if they are Buddhas are at best an approximation. We can all learn to mindfully live happyish with a little help from each other. Let’s walk together!
